Installing A Recessed Floor Socket

As recessed floor sockets come in versions please select the installation instructions for your type of floor socket.

Important - always get a qualified electrician to do any electrical work and certify the installation.

Concrete Floors

  • Concrete Based Floors

    Cut a hole into the concrete to the depth of the box. The depth varies according to the box type

    Recessed (not concealed flush)

    • USB, Shuko, Data & Media - 92mm deep
    • Plugs - 72mm deep

    Check the depth of the box to be installed before cutting.

    Concealed Flush

    • All types - 111mm deep less the depth of the floor material so the lid will sit flush with the floor when complete.
  • Installing a recessed floor socket, cutting a hole in the concrete floor.
  • Installing a recessed floor socket, cutting a hole in the concrete floor.
  • Floorboard Floors

    Initial Checks

    - there is the enough depth under the floorboards to accommodate the socket.

    - the cables for the socket in place under the floorboards.

    After the checks, cut a hole in the floorboard missing the joists below.

    On floorboard floors as the recessed floor socket rests on the flanges on top of the flooring, re-inserting the socket body checks the socket fits in the hole cut.

  • Pulling the cable through
  • Insert the body of the recessed floor socket into the hole.

    Recessed (not concealed flush)
    As these sockets have a flange around the top of the body which will sit over the flooring material. The socket body will sit proud of the floor to allow the floor material to go under the flange. Check this gap matches the flooring material depth.

    Concealed Flush
    The top of the inlay lid will be raised above the concrete level which will match the floor height when completed. Check the raised height matches the flooring material depth.

  • Installing a recessed floor socket, place the recessed floor socket body into the hole.
  • Installing a recessed floor socket, place the recessed floor socket body into the hole.
  • Remove the socket body from the hole. As these sockets have a flange around the top of the body which will sit over the flooring material, they are re-inserted after the flooring is laid.

    Knock out the cable holes required.

    Lay the floor.

    Insert the cables through the knock outs and seal holes with grommets to protect cable. If you are using screed this will help prevent the fill screed entering the socket.

  • Pulling the cable through
  • Pulling the cable into the recessed floor socket.
  • Reinsert the floor socket into the hole. The flange around the top of the body will sit over the floor.

    Secure the recessed floor socket into place using two screws through the bottom of the electrical box.

    Wire the plug and secure to the recessed socket body.

  • Wiring up the socket and securing in place.
  • Completed recessed floor socket ready to use.
  • Remove the socket body from the hole.

    Knock out the cable holes required.

    Insert the cables through the knock outs and seal holes with grommets to stop the fill screed entering the socket.

    Reinsert the body of the recessed floor socket into the hole securing it into place using two screws through the bottom of the electrical box.

    Fill the gaps around the socket and lay the floor.

    Wire the plug and secure to the recessed socket body.

  • Pulling the cable into the recessed floor socket and wiring up the socket.
  • Wiring up the socket and securing in place.
  • Attach the lid to the recessed floor socket body.

    Fill the inlay lid with matching flooring.

  • Attaching the inlay lid to the recessed socket body.
  • Insert the flooring material into the inlay lid of the concealed flush recessed floor socket
  • The recessed floor socket is ready to use.
